This is our initial idea for our project
Statement of Intent
Genre | |
Crime/Drama | |
Target Audience | |
Demographic | Teenagers and adolescents (male) between the ages of 15-21. |
Psychographic | People who enjoy crime/drama/thriller films. People who are outgoing and those who often speak to themselves. |
How we will appeal to this target audience
The fact that our opening will almost exclusively include teenage actors could appeal to them probably since they’d relate to them. It could also relate from the fact that teenagers that view this film might also have the same issue of a desire to join gangs and commit criminal activities, this film might deter them from it or reel them in.
Main inspirations | |
For the type of criminal activity and behaviour the teenage criminals have, we were inspired by a bunch of side characters we run across in the game RDR 2, these were teenage boys who were alleyway robbers, they had gangs and often robbed adults and unsuspecting people. Our inner monologue aspect of the movie was mainly inspired by the film Goodfellas, that movie had an abundance of inner monologue coming from the main character. We hope to replicate this and at least give an idea that our film will contain an inner monologue from the opening.
General Synopsis | |
In a civilised town, a young fella gets involved with a group of adolescent gangsters that commits criminal acts regularly, and rules a small area in the town, as the reality of living as a vermin to society, target of law and other criminals (who are probably older than them) settles in, It challenges his morality. The storyline of the movie is about one teenage gang member reflecting and wanting to leave but can’t due to a blood oath/promise.
Characters | |
Teenage criminals (wannabe gangsters) perhaps 3-4 of them depending on the amount of actors we will use. Young adult (probably)
Representations | |
(How will people, places, groups be portrayed in the film opening?) We believe the main characters if our opening will be shown in a negative manner, the teenage criminals who are probably abandoned home or come from abusive and poor families will be portrayed as dirty from their clothing, face, and maybe hair, as well as rude from well being criminals, and doing criminal activities, both of which are pretty rude. We believe we will also portray another character (an adult) in a neutral manner, We probably won’t go for someone really old, just a young adult maybe, we’ll probably display them wearing casual clothing and tall. (Gusde) The location we’re also planning to use will be abandoned (Taman Bali Festival) so it will be dirty and uncomfortable, fitting for a teenage criminal on the run from parents or society.
Dominant Reading | |
(What message do you want to give to your audience) Don’t join gangs kids… and adults maybe. Aside from that we’d also hopefully be able to display the reason of how innocent teenagers plunge themselves into the world of crime, blinded by its facade of fame, money, power, pleasure, and other things that uneducated and discontent people who wish for an escape from their lives hope for when joining gangs. (hopefully can do this from inner monologue)

Reflection:
Statement of intent allows us to divide task among the group members, which increases efficiency and prevents confusion. We also get a better understanding of what we are supposed to do to make our project as good as possible.
