Intriduction: for my comp 3 our group was told to do a music promotion package to use the song Chambers Of Reflection by Your Anxiety Buddy, an indie pop song which was originally created by Mac Demarco but we chose the licensed cover. For our star we went with a persona that represents loneliness and solitude which some audience could relate with
Branding is just the image or vbe an artist shows so people can recognize them. It can be their style, personality, or humour. This links to Richard Dyer’s Theory of Stardom which says celebrities are made by media through promotion and interviews so people can relate to them more.
In our MV, social media, and digipak we used a similar style. Everything looks dark and a bit low quality on purpose. In the MV we used dim lights, grainy clips, and a green tint to make it feel raw and natural, like it’s not too edited.
On our Instagram we did the same thing. We posted digital camera photos and casual pictures with dull colours. Some posts even use the same green tint. It makes the band feel more personal. Scarlett Maxwell ran the account and replied using emojis and simple online language which made it feel more direct. It also shows they are Gen Z since teenagers normally talk like that online.
The digipak is still dark but uses more grey and blue instead of green. We did this to separate the band’s real life vibe from the MV story about politics and corruption. The colours make it feel more serious, like CCTV or police lighting, showing the results of what happens in the MV.
Overall the low quality visuals make the band look like normal teenagers just having fun making music. But the darker MV and digipak show they are also serious about their message, so it shows both sides of them.
