Classwork: EDITING Practice

This blog post contains the work I did in my lesson on how to successfully edit. My teacher filmed the footage but I edited it together. My teacher also provided the template for the blog post.

Why is continuity editing important?

Continuity editing includes making sure that items like props or costumes stay consistent from scene to scene. But the more important work lies in editing shots together in a way that leaves viewers thoroughly grounded in both time and space.

Footage

Here is the footage that my teacher shot which utilises a variety of camera angles and movements. The scene is very simple, it involves a student standing up and leaving the classroom. A single shot here might be quite boring for the audience, by editing and combining the shots together we can make the scene feel more dynamic.

My editing process

We used capcut on my phone because we had internet issues on my laptop.

Explain how you edited the clips together. Include screenshots of the editing software.

We downloaded the clips from gdrive and put it all together in the editing software, then we reorganized the clips, shorten it, and made it

Here is my first attempt with some errors. Here is how I fixed the errors…

Here is my final scene. Editing multiple clips together made the scene better because…

Reflection How will this tutorial help your project? What was your biggest challenge? How will you improve your editing next time?

Shooting Practice: (Crime/Drama) Scene Recreation

This post contains a mini project that helped us learn how to shoot a cinematic scene. We did this project as a group.

Lesson Description: For todays lesson, my teacher told us to find a scene from a real movie that fits with our genre for Comp 1. Our task was to recreate a scene from the movie "Fight Club" as it fits with our planned movie genre, we recreated this as a group and split the task so that we each have something to contribute.

- Mise-En-Scene

Solutions:

No solutions.

- Used a piece of paper on the ground.

Next Time:

Use a proper microphone and choose better setting.

- Use labels/objects on the ground to identify our spots.

- Buy lighting equipment and shoot in time that fits our scene better.

- Bring a tripod

- Use outfits, setting, appearance that will better fit our scene.

Reflection:  It was an enjoyable fun small classwork having to recreate a scene from a particular film, through this activity, we learnt firsthand how to work together as a group and be in synergy to create something. Together we managed to recreate a scene from "Fight Club" through sheer dedication, however it was not a perfect 1:1 recreation and it had many flaws due to us not having enough time and lack of equipment resulting in a cheap looking scene.
