What is genre

Today we learned about genre, here is my brief summary of the lesson

Define Genre n Genre Convention
- Genre is a category of different styles, tones, and characteristic in a media.
- Genre conventions are story codes such as characters, soundtrack, setting, plot that are expected to be in certain genres, and has to complement the genre of the media.


Movie Title: The Pianist 2002

Describe the genre and genre conventions of the movie:
- The movie's genre is a hybrid genre consisting of war, history, drama. It's genre's convention consists of elements that associates and conforms to the genre of the movie. It contains guns, dead bodies, a nazi ruled  country, and explosions, as well as tragedy and evil soldiers.

Describe its audience:
- This movie is directed towards audiences age 13 and above, mainly audiences above the age of 17, as they contain extreme violence and cruel depictions of corpses and genocide. It is appealing to people who enjoys historical movies mainly set in the world war era and is also enjoyed by people who likes movies that depicts sadness and tragedy.



Movie: The Hangover part I 2009

Describe the genre and genre convention of this movie:
- This movie genre is a comedy and it contains multiple hilarious moments and humorous characters which is to be expected in a comedy movie and so it conforms to the movie genre.

Describe its audience:
-This comedy movie is directed towards audiences age 18 and above for it contains multiple sexually explicit scenes as well as harsh language. This Movie generally appeals to people who enjoy comedy movies and yearn for a some laughter.


Movie title: Fight Club 1999 

Describe the genre and genre convention of this movie:
-This movie is a hybrid Action/crime genre and its fast paced disastrous plot as well as the crime that took place in this movie which were committed by characters that possesses criminal traits conforms to the genre of the movie.

Describe its audience:
-This movie is directed towards mature audiences age 18 and above preferably over 21 as it contains multiple sexually explicit scenes, language, and violence. It is also a deeply philosophical movie that which might not be easy to understand. This movie appeals to audiences who enjoy action and crime as well as movies with a deeper meaning behind it, and not to mention plot twists.


Movie title: Taxi Driver 1976

Describe the genre and genre convention of this movie:
- This movie is a crime genre with a dark tone and complex characters which perfectly compliment its noire style, it is also located in a busy dirty city filled with corruption and prostitution which conforms to the genre of the movie.

Describe the audience:
-This movie is directed towards mature audiences age 18 and above as it contains a few sexual scenes and extreme violence. This movie speaks to what's still happening today as the main character is a man who has been burdened with loneliness his entire life and as a result he turned towards drugs and slowly starts to lose himself and is walking down a path of self destruction. It appeals to audiences who enjoy crime movies with a noir style and audiences who can relate to the main character struggles.

-This advert conforms to audiences who loves or appreciate travelling by showing sceneries and locations all around the world to spark the audience and inspire them to travel

-it conforms to the audience in a creative way, as they put in so much effort in the advert

-Famous Landmarks, Historical Landmarks etc

- Inspiring music that resonates in the targeted audience's ears 

What peopple were shown in the ad? 
- A person who looks like a traveler travelling around the world and visiting landmarks and countries.
It appeals to the targeted audience because they feel like they need to be like the person in the video.

What is the message of this advert?
- To promote travelling and show audiences who are interested or take part in travelling the beauty of travelling.

Who is the target audience?
- This advertisement is targeted towards families who are interested in travelling to Colorado and people who loves western sceneries.

-It conforms to the targeted audience by showing shots of sceneries and nature

-To advertise Colorado and persuade targeted audiences to visit.

-The target audience is young and old people who enjoy travelling and exploring the world. Their ages are usually around 20 to 50 years old.

-They usually display sceneries, beautiful landmarks, and their culture from every part of the country.

-It conforms the normal way

- Lakes, Landmarks

- Young Adults from around the world

- To Promote travelling

Who is the target audience?
- This ad is targeted towards young adult up to old people age 20 to 80, it is targeting people who are interested in going to Singapore or people who loves travelling in general for entertainment purposes. the reason for that is because this ad shows various activities for people those age.

How is this audience usually targeted
- They display numerous activities and places in the country which the targeted audiences could visit.

- This ad conforms in a distinctive and unique way with creative camera works and angles as well as exclusive and professional editing.



What images/locations were used to appeal to the audiences
- Most of the scenes are shot in the city most crowded locations such as the airports or chinatown. They also showed us amusement parks and beach.

what sound music did they use?
-Outgoing pop music with numerous beats.

What is the message ofr this advert?
-Introduce the country of Singapore and what is in it, attracts and persuade the public to visit Singapore

Self Reflection:

Before we started filming, our team was in shambles and chaos ensued. We argued about our choice of  location and deciding our roles. But after filming everything went pretty smoothly.
